The VolkerFitzpatrick Southern Renewals Enterprise (SRE) team has helped local residents to rejuvenate a community garden near the Ore tunnel in Hastings. This initiative is part of SRE’s ongoing commitment to give back to the communities affected by engineering works in the area.
The community garden, a vital haven for local residents, including a care organisation for children with special needs, features a herb and vegetable garden that helps feed some of the community’s most vulnerable residents.
The gardening project provided a way for the team to give back to the local community and thank them for their patience whilst the nearby Ore Tunnel was closed for essential maintenance works.
On Saturday 23rd November, representatives from VolkerFitzpatrick and the SRE team sourced materials and joined local residents to clean up pathways, rejuvenate the herb garden and vegetable patch, install planters, and set up a shed for gardening equipment and supplies. Additionally, they built a sandpit and mud kitchen for local children, enhancing the garden’s appeal and functionality.
“It’s fantastic to see our team repay the local community’s patience with this initiative. Our team have helped source many of the materials through our supply chain partners and have donated their own time and effort on a Saturday morning to take part in this activity. It’s really heartening to spend time working side-by-side with the local community on a project that will have a big impact for local residents.”
