On 24th May, a new outdoor garden area at Valence Primary School in Dagenham, East London, was unveiled, thanks to VolkerFitzpatrick’s project team at Eastbrook Studios.
Along with several supply chain partners, members of the Eastbrook Studios' team brought a derelict area of the school to life by providing materials, labour, and groundwork support to the value of £22,000. Funds were also raised to provide plants, seating, topsoil, sub-soil, boulders, a willow dome and a pergola.
Jeff Carter, Project Director at Eastbrook Studio’s commented: “It has been a delightful process to create a permanent outdoor educational space at Valence Primary School. We actively seek partnerships with charities, schools and colleges in the local area and know this garden will leave a lasting legacy and benefit children at the school in years to come.”
Richard November, Head teacher at Valence Primary School said: “The opening of the new garden has been an amazing collaboration between the school, local authority and local companies who have generously donated labour and resources to this project. This is a testament of what can be achieved when the local community works together for the benefit of our most precious individuals .......children.”
The garden was opened by students who attend the school’s gardening club. Several supply chain partners attended the ribbon-cutting ceremony, as well as Richard Hallgate-Hills from the Local Educational Partnership, London Borough of Barking & Dagenham, who commented: "We are thrilled to celebrate the opening of the new school garden at Valence Primary School. This wonderful space will provide students with hands-on learning opportunities and a chance to connect with nature. It's a fantastic addition to the school, promoting both education and well-being. We're grateful to VolkerFitzpatrick and their supply chain, in conjunction with the school and the Local Authority, who supported this initiative through a mixture of donations, materials, labour and groundworks.”
Children from all year groups at the school can now enjoy the garden. The space is perfect for outdoor learning across various subjects, offering opportunities for quiet time and nature appreciation. It also provides valuable support for SEND children.
