Save the Children Champion Completes the World Marathon Challenge
Over £50,000 has been raised for VolkerFitzpatrick’s charity, Save the Children, by Denis Cormican running an impressive seven marathons in seven continents in seven days.
Denis is the managing director of PLS Civil Engineering Ltd – a subcontractor working across several of our projects. Last week, Denis took part in the World Marathon Challenge (WMC), which is a logistical and physical challenge to run seven marathons in seven continents in seven days. In the lead up, he also had to arrange his own flights and expenses, outside of his fundraising total.
Paul Lilley, operations director for VolkerFitzpatrick, said: “Congratulations to Denis on completing this impressive feat. I also want to thank everyone that has donated and helped Denis raise over £50,000 for one of our core charities, Save The Children.”
Denis Cormican from PLS Civil Engineering Ltd, said: “It’s been an amazing whirlwind of highs and lows, but overall, a wonderful experience that I will never forget. I would like to thank everyone who has kept in contact, donated and my sponsors. I have been overwhelmed by the generosity of individuals and companies who have shown their support and commitment to me personally, and to VolkerFitzpatrick, VolkerWessels UK and Save the Children. I have been humbled by the response and it has kept me going through the toughest of times. VolkerFitzpatrick’s Paul Lilley and Abigail Hale deserve a special mention for helping me to arrange, communicate, fundraise, and execute the mission. Lastly, a big thank you to Mandy and my children. It has a been a big personal commitment to fit the training and organising around a busy work and family schedule.”
