The works include construction of the 535,000ft2 facility which, when complete, will measure 21m in height and feature three storeys of main offices, a two-storey warehouse hub office and a gatehouse.

The building’s structure will consist of a steel portal frame on top of concrete foundations, with a metal cladded envelope and glazed piers. A built-up metal solar heating wall system will heat the external air, before drawing it into the building’s ventilation system, providing a more sustainable heating and ventilation solution.

The main office space will include a kitchen and staff changing facilities, and will receive a Cat A fit out, with raised floors, HVAC and energy-saving LED lighting. The external façade will feature brise soleil and metal cladding.

External works will include yard areas on two levels, an access road, car parking, landscaping and drainage, whilst the new warehouse will include 78 loading and four level access docks.

As part of the business’ commitment to delivering social value in the communities in which they work, VolkerFitzpatrick will employ at least 20 per cent of their project workforce locally, including a minimum of two people currently in long-term unemployment.

Stuart Deverill, managing director of VolkerFitzpatrick’s building division, said: “I am delighted VolkerFitzpatrick has been chosen to deliver this exciting and significant new project. This recent award is a further example of our strength in this highly specialist sector.”

Simon Cox, head of project management for Prologis UK said: “Prologis UK was the first property company in the UK to introduce a Social Value Charter for its supply chain and we are delighted to see VolkerFitzpatrick delivering value to the communities local to our DIRFT development.”
