VolkerFitzpatrick supports students from Nottingham Trent University in their learning and early career steps
VolkerFitzpatrick is committed to ensuring that a minimum of 5% of its total workforce consists of apprentices, sponsored students or graduates on formal training schemes. This month, as well as promoting its year-long industry placement opportunities to students from Nottingham Trent University (NTU) at their Careers Fair, we facilitated a site visit to a group of second-year students from the university’s Built Environment school.
As the main contractor on client Prologis’s DIRFT (Daventry International Rail Freight Terminal) site where VolkerFitzpatrick is delivering two new £26 million distribution units, students were given an exclusive tour of the development. Here, they were told about site considerations, construction methods and ‘big-box’ engineering principles.
The trip concluded with a detailed sustainability certification exercise, which highlighted the significant efforts undertaken to achieve carbon reduction targets.
Sandesh Kale, senior project manager, commented: “It’s really important to take these opportunities to inspire students with first-hand accounts about the world of construction and the spectrum of opportunities available. The site visit was great success, with students asking questions about the broad variety of careers within the construction industry.”
