VolkerFitzpatrick welcomes students to Eastbrook Studios site for Open Doors 2023
As part of Build UK’s Open Doors week, VolkerFitzpatrick welcomed 40 visitors from Brook Sixth Form and Academy and Barking & Dagenham College to the development at Eastbrook Studios, London.
VolkerFitzpatrick started work on the 26-acre site in August, which, when complete will be London’s largest film and television production centre, created by the world’s largest studio owner-operator.
The visits were split into two sessions, each involving a presentation from senior project manager Andrew Bale, giving them an inside look at the project, as well as the variety of career paths available in the construction industry.
Following a short safety briefing and induction, the groups then headed out for a site tour via a safe viewing area, specifically set up for the visit. Whilst on-site, the students were able to view live construction works taking place, as well as plant demonstrations. They also took the opportunity to ask questions and discuss the different roles required for a project such as this.
The day was a great success, with all visitors highly engaged and interested to learn more about both the project and the wider industry.
Claire Bannister, assistant principal, Brook Sixth Form and Academy said: “We were delighted to have the opportunity for our year 10 students to visit the Eastbrook Studios site. The transformation of the area has been exciting to watch and seeing the vision of how the studios will look in just a few months' time is incredible.
The introduction of our young students to the 'hidden' work to create the structures and buildings has opened their eyes not only to the careers available in the industry but to the amount of planning, preparation and work that is required to create new complexes and buildings. Again, thank you.”
Andrew Bale, senior project manager, VolkerFitzpatrick, commented: “The Open Doors event was a great way for students to see a live site and find out about career options in the construction industry. They were really engaged with the visit, and it was wonderful to be able to talk to them about the industry and answer all their questions.”
