A2 Activity Park
VolkerFitzpatrick was appointed to design and construct an activity park which would include 10km of cycle walking and horse riding routes; 20 hectares of public open space, wildflower grassland, 5 hectares of woodland habitat; and a multi-discipline cycling facility encompassing the following elements: Tarmac racing circuit BMX Dirt cross racing circuit Concrete skateboard park Mountain Bike Trails (MBT) Multi-Use Games Area (MUGA)
Each facility was constructed as a self-contained area with its own fencing and lighting within the overall facility perimeter.
The BMX and MTB tracks are unique, bespoke elements developed from outline Client design concepts to suit the bespoke needs of the end users whilst taking into consideration terrain and budget constraints. The design of each facility within the park was refined to ensure we delivered an exceptional "top end" facility for Kent County Council that met competition standards.
Other aspects of the works included:
- A new car park with overflow
- Construction of a pedestrian footbridge and two underpasses.
- Utility diversions and other ancillary works
A high profile and community orientated project, the scheme benefited from collaboration and partnering between VolkerFitzpatrick and the Stakeholders and Client's team. The establishment of effective relationships between all parties was fundamental to ensuring we gave this high profile project the best possible start. We wanted to ensure understanding and incorporation of stakeholder needs within our project planning process, enabling us to proactively manage expectations to build trust and commitment, and deliver quality customer care.
At the opening of the A2 Activity Park David Brazier, KCC Deputy Cabinet Member, said: "VolkerFitzpatrick Ltd have demonstrated an enthusiasm and capability for the project that wasn't present in any of their competitor's submissions and an understanding for the consultation process"
