Stratford City, Athlete's Village - Roads and Utilities
Lend Lease were appointed as Principal Contractor for the £52m combined roads and utilities package being carried out in Stratford, London. VolkerFitzpatrick was appointed as a key supply chain partner to deliver the installation of new utilities for the Athletes Village including foul and surface water drainage, gas and water mains, telecommunications services for all the other projects on site, and the construction of the primary, secondary & tertiary road & footpath network.
The works were split in two phases. Phase 1 involved utility installation and road construction to a temporary wearing course level (for construction traffic). Phase 2 was delivered in 2011 when the permanent kerbs, wearing course, paving and finishings were completed.
Over a 3 year period our works interfaced with multiple contractors on the Olympic Park, Westfield and at the Athletes Village. A works attitude of "project first" was adopted. Our project team worked with all these parties to maintain a demanding work schedule with a fixed end date. Daily and weekly dialogue took place regarding access, phasing and interfaces as well as miscellaneous design detailing at the various project interfaces.
