Bristol Airport Western Apron Extension
This contract for Bristol Airport was to demolish an existing aircraft hangar in order to extend the Western Apron commercial aircraft stand provision.
Following demolition of the hanger extensive earthworks were required to level the ground and to move existing services to allow for the creation of the new pavement quality concrete hard standing. The PQC laid was to an approved strength that meets the requirements for routine use by commercial jet aircraft.
With the demolition of the existing aircraft hangar a new facility was required to act as the airport's Snow Base. A new 1,428m2 steel framed Snow Base facility has been constructed on the South side of the airport.
As part of this work to extend the apron an infill linking it to taxiway in Marshall Asphalt was required. This was delivered during night time possessions under strict handover/handback procedures.
Other associated works included the installation of new high mast floodlighting units and fixed ground power units; new drainage; construction of a reinforced soil retaining structure; installation of high security acoustic fencing.
